The ISHINOMAKI BENCH was originally designed to be used by Ishinomaki residents at a temporary outdoor movie theater and made with students from Ishinomaki Technical High School. Through additional workshops in partnership with American furniture maker Herman Miller, 25 benches for use in temporary housing around Ishinomaki were later made with other local residents.

Karimoku’s rendition of this design adapts it to suit the use of deciduous broadleaf trees, changing the thickness to be slightly slimmer than the original ISHINOMAKI BENCH.
